Solvent Recovery
The solvent processing industry, including sectors such as printing, dry cleaning, and paint shops, relies on solvents that vaporize during production. The recovery of these solvents from the exhaust air is economically and ecologically advantageous. The Aksoy Kimya Group Activated Carbon Solvent Recovery Process is based on the principle of adsorbing solvents onto activated carbon and subsequently desorbing them using superheated steam or hot inert gas. The resulting condensate is further treated to reclaim the solvent for reuse in the production process.
The effectiveness of the solvent recovery process depends on the use of high-quality activated carbon grades with a well-balanced pore structure. Micro-pores play a critical role in solvent retention, ensuring compliance with prescribed VOC emission limits, while access pores in the macro- and meso-pore range facilitate the desorption of solvents from the activated carbon.
To minimize flow resistance, activated carbon is loaded into fixed-bed adsorbers. This is why extruded carbon pellets at the millimeter scale are the preferred choice as adsorbents for this application. Depending on the type of solvent to be removed, activated carbon grades of various raw material origins or low-ash carbon grades are employed to achieve the best treatment results.
